Looking to join the Tahoe Derby Dames.  We are always looking for energetic men and women interested in learning the sport of flat track roller derby as a skater or referee.
Modern Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby is a growing international sport which includes a mixture of full-contact skating, great athletic training and an awesome grass roots do-it-yourself attitude.  You’ll meet other locals with a great athletic attitude all here in South Lake Tahoe! The Dames offer general training for the new-on-your-skates to the well seasoned derby girl transferring to our great neck of the woods.  Equipment borrowing is on a first come/first  fit basis. Please bring a mouth guard.

Do I have to be able to skate before I show up?

No.  As a new skater you will be given ample opportunity to learn to skate and acquire your minimum skills before stepping out onto the track.  Each skaters skills are accessed by a coach and they will determine your placement and practice ability.

How soon before I can bout in a real game?
It could take as long as 8 or 9 months before you are placed on a bouting roster.  Your skills, attendance at practice, and overall Derby knowledge will determine this.

What do I need to bring to my first practice?
In order to skate, each skater must wear a Helmet, Elbow Pads, Knee Pads, Wrist Guards, mouth guards and quad skates.  There are no exceptions.  The Tahoe Derby Dames have limited loaner equipment. We do not have all sizes, so you can try skating with our loaner gear but we suggest for your safety that you look into purchasing your own gear.  Starter packages start at around $200 to $500 new however we suggest looking to craigslist or eBay for used gear (at least until you know what you want).
